Fund Raising Basics

There are two kinds of fund raisers. One you are raising money for a cause which goes to charity and the other is raising money for something your group would like to do (field trip, research). This is where fundraising gets tricky because many people often confuse the two.

If you are having a fund raiser to research a cure for cancer, than many people have feelings towards that subject and are willing to buy a wristband. In other words, they have an incentive to donate. However, if you are raising money for your science class that wants to go to Europe than people do not have an incentive to buy. What’s the solution?

You must give them a reason to! Usually the best way to do this is to charge $3 to $5 for the wristbands, buy a gift card from a local restaurant, and have a raffle. It’s really a win/win for the donator, you, and the restaurant. In fact most of the time the restaurants will give you a gift card free! Which fund raiser are you?
